This message is from one of our alumni, who initiated his own GOFUNDME campaign to visit area nursing home residents who might not have families, and gift them little surprise bags of goodies at Christmastime. Several staff members and other alumni helped put the gift bags together, and visited with the residents as well. We are very proud of Ronnie, and hope that every one of our students takes this love of community service with them when they venture into the world! Well done, Falcons!
Hi there, I’m Ronnie!
As some of you may know, I started an independent service project where volunteers and I visit nursing home residents and chat with them, play board games, and color with them. We are visiting all over Southern Ohio to target residents that don’t get the simple pleasures such as family visits.
My current high school, Bishop Fenwick High School, have freshmen service projects they do in the fall and spring. I was inspired by this idea, and thought of visiting nursing home seniors! Of course, I decided to go independent from Bishop Fenwick & went all out—I’m an overachiever, for those who don’t know—and I am volunteering several hours a day from December 20 thru the 31.
Volunteers also present the residents with gift bags. Each bag contains a travel size pack of tissues, lotions, lip balm, candies, and other goodies! We raised more than $700 for these bags—a big part of which was donated by St. John XXIII faculty & students!
If you or someone you know would be interested in donating please visit our GoFundMe at http://gofundme.com/AdoptNursingXmas16. (Any extra donations will go towards Adopt a Nursing Home Resident 2017!)
